Fear The Walking Dead, The End Is The Beginning: Things To Note
By Liam O'Leary
1) While we eventually discover what the man is spray-painting by episode’s end, it still raises the question as to why: Is what he wrote his group’s slogan? Like “We are the end of the world” was for The Whisperers?
2) The first appearance of Emile LaRoux is very much like John Dorie’s first appearance in the season four premiere, “What’s Your Story?”: A lone cowboy sitting by a fire who invites a stranger to join him.
3) In what seems like a theme running across The Walking Dead universe lately, while Emile recounts to Walter a brief history of humanity’s relationship with the humble bean (Which, he explains is the first crop humans cultivated), he says: “They were right there with us at the beginning. Seems only fitting that we be enjoying them as we march toward the inexorable end.”
4) Emile seems to share the same sort of fatalism we saw in Elton in World Beyond, believing humanity is officially going extinct. For the most part, this sort of outlook is something we’ve seen surprisingly little of prior to this, or at least, not seen it expressed so openly.
5) Who, exactly are the people looking Walter? The fact that Emile doesn’t mention him to Virginia means that, whoever they are, they’re not some sort of Pioneers outpost. Additionally, who in Galveston has the means to hire Emile? I can’t imagine his services come cheap. Also, if they’re big enough (Which, you’d imagine they would be, if they have the means to pay Emile in the first place), how come Morgan’s group never encountered them when they were closer to that part of Texas?
6) Walter is the first named character to die this season.
