Fear the Walking Dead season 6 episode 5 recap: Honey
Here’s your recap of Fear the Walking Dead season 6 episode 5 “Honey”.
Fear the Walking Dead “Honey” begins with a stack of letters that all bear the infinity symbol on them. Sherry looks through them all while Dwight cooks breakfast for her. He takes his last dose of antibiotics to complete his plague treatment, then he kisses Sherry and asks her about the letters.
They’re on a bed surrounded by candlelight and he reminisces about the first letter she ever left him, where she said she loved the man he was. He was hoping to be the man he used to be when they found each other, which is why he kept the letters.
They kiss, and they’re interrupted when Dwight’s radio goes off. He missed check in by an hour. Al was supposed to be covering for him but she didn’t check in. He makes up a lie about a herd of walkers, and the other person says that Virginia wants them back with the tapes, but he says that he was going to check out some off map locations. The person on the other end finally agrees.
Sherry is worried about Al, but Dwight says he’ll look for her later. He says that if Virginia thinks they’re dead they can get away, but Sherry isn’t so sure. She goes off for a fork and doesn’t return, so Dwight grabs his ax and walks through the rooms looking for her. A door slams, and when he looks outside he finds the masked figures standing there. They’re inside as well.
Cue the credits, here we go. This week’s credits feature two figures, Dwight and Sherry, and what looks to be pool railings. There’s a dog, too. Oddly enough, the music sounds different this week. It’s deflated, and sad. Is that a harbinger of what’s to come?
Dwight’s mask is removed by one of the masked figures. He’s in a drained pool. He asks where Sherry is, and then he runs to tackle one of the men. A dog is in a cage nearby. Dwight manages to get the gun and he demands to know where Sherry is. Suddenly he is surrounded by a dozen or more masked figures and they all have their guns drawn. Then Sherry appears, apologizing for the way they brought him there. She says that these are all the people Virginia threw away because they weren’t good enough. They were the ones who saved her.

They lower their guns as Dwight asked why she didn’t tell him about it. Sherry says that they’re trying to bring Virginia down. Oswald, one of the men, isn’t happy that Dwight’s there. He wants to know where Virginia will be but Dwight doesn’t know. He shows Dwight the tapes that reveal he’s working with them, and then there’s a tape with Althea tied up. Oswald says she’s his insurance policy.
Suddenly another man comes up. It’s Rollie, the man that Dwight set free at Tank Town. Sherry can’t believe they know each other. Rollie says that they don’t have time for this. They can trust Dwight but right now they need to focus on intercepting the SWAT van when it passes nearby. Sherry says that if they can bring down Virginia they can finally be together.
Their plan is to blow up the MRAP, and that’s when Al walks up. She’s fine, but she says their plan won’t work. Oswald doesn’t buy it, but Al says that it’s made to be protected from explosions. She knows because it’s hers. The only way to make a mark is to steal it back from Virginia.
Later, the masked group waits with their horses. Dwight holds hands with Sherry as the MRAP approaches. Al slides her mask in place and she gets ready to go. When it passes, they move out. The driver is by himself and he’s about to refuel. He sees the horses in the mirror and tries to call in but they cut the wire. He’s on his own. He gets ready to fire at them so they ride close, and then he uses up all of his ammo.
The driver tries to swerve to hit them but instead he loses control a bit, giving them a chance for Dwight to get on board. He tries to shake Dwight off but can’t do it. The horses keep up with the MRAP but Dwight gets inside and manages to knock the driver out without him seeing too much of his face.
Dwight brings the vehicle to a stop, breathing heavily. The other riders arrive and Dwight gets out.
They go looking for the driver when Morgan rides up, the driver dragging on a rope behind him. “No way,” Dwight mutters. Sherry wants to know if Dwight saved him, too. Dwight says it’s the opposite.
Morgan smiles at him, and at Al.
Al tells Morgan she’s going to have to interview him about all of this. Morgan is happy to answer any questions she has. Dwight had heard his message, but Morgan says he doesn’t die. He says Virginia shot him, then someone saved him. He has no idea who it was. Morgan asks about Sherry and he’s genuinely happy that they found each other. Dwight says they don’t know where anyone is because they only get close to the settlements. Morgan asks if they’ve seen Grace, but they haven’t.
Morgan watches as the masked people lead the driver out of the MRAP.
That night they sit in the pool. Al asks about the dog and they say that they found it by a sanctuary. Rollie tells Morgan that they consider him a friend. They want to strike against Virginia but Morgan says he’s building something and he could use their help. Rollie thinks that killing Virginia will make them safer, and Sherry says she understands what Dwight said about Morgan believing life is precious but that can’t be the way they work right now.
Morgan says it may come to violence but points out that he and Dwight were part of All Out War, where lots of people died. If they attack Virginia and it doesn’t work then they’re putting more people at risk, people they all care about. Al asks if he wants them to wait until they get their people out first. Morgan tells her they can come see the place he’s building, but he wants them to wait until they strike.
That night, Sherry asks Dwight if he wants to go with Morgan. Dwight says they’re like his family and they’re why he is who he is. Sherry reminds Dwight that it was Morgan who led them into Virginia’s grasp. He’d like to at least see where this is, but Sherry only sees it as they have one option: Kill Virginia.
Dwight says that he won’t leave without Sherry, so that’s that.
They’re playing music for the guard, just like Dwight did when Daryl was at the Sanctuary. When Dwight and Rollie and Sherry come in, Dwight leads the interrogations. The man says he doesn’t know where Virginia is. They pour guts on him and bring the dog in. He asks what she did to them, and when he doesn’t talk Dwight pulls off his mask so there is no way out. When things get heated, Morgan throws his ax and stops him.
They go outside and get into an argument about the right time. Dwight doesn’t believe him about his safe place because they heard that before. Morgan says he’s different now and they’re going to do things differently. Dwight uses Grace to say if she asked him to do what Sherry was asking of him, he would do it too.
Dwight finds Rollie and Sherry getting the MRAP ready. Rollie asks if Morgan changed his mind, but Sherry says that they might be able to get Virginia to come to them since Dwight can use his check in to lure her out. He calls in and Hill answers. Dwight says they found over a hundred living people and he wants Virginia to meet them. Hill says they will come out by nightfall.
Later Sherry asks Dwight about how to use the guns in the MRAP. Dwight says they can stick a little bit. She asks if Dwight was going to let the dog kill the guy, and she wonders if he had to do stuff like that at the Sanctuary. Dwight says that he might have to sideline Morgan and Al to get through this, even though they’re like his family. He vows to kill Virginia himself.
Morgan asks Al if they are going to try to steal the MRAP. She says she lied about the dynamite because it will work. Al agrees that they can’t put their people in danger. Dwight comes in and says he can’t let Al and Morgan do this. The masked group comes in and holds them all at gunpoint. They toss them into the same holding area as the driver, who is unconscious.
Dwight apologizes to Morgan when he searches him, but he’s not really sorry. Someone has to lose in this fight and they need it to be Virginia. Sherry watches her husband with a sad face. She takes his gun away and says he has to stay in there too. She won’t let him go back to the way he was.
That night Sherry and the group park the MRAP and they get into position. Virginia is ten minutes away.
Inside the holding cell, Al works on freeing herself while Dwight admits that Morgan was right. He thought this is what she needed, and Morgan says that he spent too much thinking his way was the only way. He didn’t know he needed to change until the last minute. Dwight tries to free himself because he needs to help Sherry avoid going through what they went through.
When Virginia’s people move in, Sherry gets ready with the MRAP. Dwight gets free and tells Sherry to get out so she doesn’t make the same mistake he did. They realize that Virginia isn’t with them. The guards call for Al and Dwight. The masked men say that the guards are in the target zone. Dwight tries to talk her out of it while Oswald tells her to fire. Sherry’s hand wavers as they drive away.
When Dwight tells her it’s going to be okay, she gets upset that he made it hard for her.
Later, she’s still upset. When someone knocks at the door she wants them to go away, but Dwight comes in anyway. He wants to know what Virginia did to her. Sherry says it was never about Virginia, and Dwight realizes it was about Negan. Sherry is upset that she could have done something about him but never did, and Dwight reminds her that they can’t change the past. He won’t let that happen again. She tells him he needs to leave because she needs to do this. That’s the truth. She can’t change who they are, but he reminds her of who he used to be before everything happened and that’s why he needs to go. Dwight walks away as she breaks down.
Dwight goes to the dog’s cage and holds up a hand. He puts his hand to the cage and the dog licks it. Dwight smiles and lets the dog out. It runs off, free.
Dwight finds Morgan and Al, and Morgan reports that they took off with the driver. Morgan tells Dwight to come with them and Dwight wants to know if he’s really going to take her out and he is. Al promises that Dwight found a way back to her so she will find a way back to him.
Dwight realizes they need to make it look like they’re dead, so they disguise some walkers to look like themselves. Morgan smashes their faces so they won’t be recognized.
Al and Dwight introduce Nora and their friends from the office to Morgan, who tells them that he has a place for them but it needs work. They’re ready. Dwight leaves a message for Sherry before leaving with the group.
And that’s it for this week’s episode of Fear the Walking Dead!
