Connecting The Walking Dead: ‘Shadow Puppets’

3) Everyone Can Be A Test Subject
Just as it was two episodes earlier in “The Wrong End Of A Telescope”, this episode ended with a post-credit sequence featuring the mysterious Civic Republic scientist, Dr. Lyla Belshaw.
In that previous scene, we watched as the good doctor began experimenting on Dr. Samuel Abbott, a scientist from the Portland community, who had been, apparently, friends with Dr. Belshaw when the two, along with Iris and Hope’s dad, Dr. Bennett, began trying to find a cure for the zombie virus, that was, of course, before he seemed to be forcibly turned into an empty. This revelation that the Civic Republic had turned a scientist sent to help them try to cure the zombie virus into a zombie did not bode well for Dr. Bennett or anyone not originally from the Civic Republic, for that matter.
Well, this week’s post-credit sequence seemed to confirm those fears, as Lyla received a call from the nefarious Lieutenant Kublek, apparently warning her about Iris and Hope’s impending arrival at the site, to which Lyla assured the lieutenant that neither Dr. Bennett, nor his security detail, Will, would be a problem. Extremely foreboding, indeed.
Worse still, not only is this bad news for Dr. Bennett, but, it also raises questions as to what fate awaits Rick.
Sure, in the latest season of The Walking Dead, Michonne learned that Rick had survived his ordeal at the bridge, but, she didn’t learn when the evidence she found was from. It only revealed that Rick survived, not whether he was still surviving.
What criteria does the Civic Republic’s science division have for who they do or do not make into test subjects? Do they have any?
And, ultimately, what does this mean for Rick (And Michonne when she finds him)? Will he be imprisoned? Will he be sent to the ominous sounding “Health And Welfare Complex” Sergeant Barca was taken to for questioning Kublek’s massacre of Campus Colony? Or, will Rick be assigned to the same gruesome fate as Dr. Abbott and, apparently, Dr. Bennett?
I’m suddenly much more curious to find out…
