The Walking Dead: One More marks the 150th episode for the series
By Renee Hansen
The Walking Dead will air its 150th episode on Sunday, March 14. The series started its first season in 2010. By the fifth season, it was sitting at 17.3 million in viewership, making it the highest-rated live/same day non-sports telecast in cable history, as reported by Forbes. The series also ranks as AMC’s highest-rated scripted show. Fans of the series have felt that over the longevity of the show, it has had its ups and downs, but die-hard fans will watch regardless.
The announcement that season eleven would be the final for the season was a shock. After ten seasons, it was thought this series would continue for quite some time. Over time the series has dropped in viewers, but even at its lowest viewership, it was still drawing more viewers than some shows will ever see.
The eleventh season will give us another 24 episodes, totaling 177 episodes for the series. That is no small feat.
The series that is based on the comic book story has often diverged from the source material. This generally displeases comic fans as they were excited to see the comic storyline play out on screen.
What will be in store for The Walking Dead’s eleventh season?
The series is currently airing six bonus episodes of its tenth season. These episodes are filler episodes that are character-centric and were filmed during the pandemic. So far, we have seen a Maggie episode and an episode focused mostly on Daryl. They have been wonderful episodes that give us some insight into the specific characters. These episodes will bridge us right into season eleven.
We have met a new threat, the Reapers, who have been wreaking havoc in Maggie’s life. Will this group follow into season 11? There is also a theory that Leah, who we met in Daryl’s episode, could be part of this group or perhaps was kidnapped by them.
In this week’s episode, “One More,” we will meet another new character, Mays, and there is another theory that he could be part of the Reapers as well. Granted, this is all just speculation, but the Reapers could be a large part of the eleventh season if any of it proves to be true.
We are also being introduced to this new group of soldiers who have captured Euguene, Ezekiel, Yumiko and Princess. Showrunner Angela Kang has confirmed this group to be from the Commonwealth; a group featured in the comic storyline. The addition of Michael James Shaw as Mercer, a soldier in the Commonwealth, has fans excited to see the portrayal of this character.
Another huge issue is Negan. This character has come far in his path to redemption but will it make up for his past actions? Maggie has returned and hasn’t seen this other side of the man who brutally beat her husband to death. She says she can learn to live with him, but I don’t think things are over between the two characters.
Many characters are important to fans, and the hope is that season eleven will give us some resolution to their lives and a glimpse of what their future will hold. With the Carol and Daryl spinoff series scheduled to come after the main series ends, we could see some other familiar faces in this series. But, we don’t know anything about what this new series will be like.
The final season will be extended to 24 episodes, giving the writers time to steadily take us to the end of the series. It is a very sad thing to type that phrase, but it’s the reality of the series. Even so, it won’t be the end of the fandom. Fear The Walking Dead has seen a resurgence in its viewership with its amazing sixth season and will also see a seventh. World Beyond will give us another season of a different view of the apocalyptic world. Carol and Daryl’s series will continue their stories. We will also be getting Tales of The Walking Dead that will be an anthology of tales revolving around TWD characters. The Walking Dead movies are still a go whenever things are safe for Andrew Lincoln to travel to the states.
Our heartiest congratulations to The Walking Dead cast and crew for the 150th episode!
