Fear the Walking Dead: Did you catch the Deadwood connections?

Fear the Walking Dead season six has been taking us on an emotional roller coaster. We have witnessed heartbreak, death, met a cult, and now we meet John Dorie Sr. (Keith Carradine).

In the episode titled “J.D.,” June is reunited with Dwight and Sherry, and they are fired upon by someone very skilled with a gun. June follows the stranger and comes upon an RV. As she is looking through newspaper clippings, notes, and maps hanging on the wall, a mysterious stranger holds a gun on her and asks what she is doing there. Shortly after, we find out that this man is none other than John Dorie Sr.

Until now, we have only heard a little about John Dorie’s dad. We knew he was a police officer investigating a string of murders that a cult leader committed. This leader is Teddy Maddox (John Glover), who we have recently discovered is the Beginner’s leader, who is currently holding Alicia (Alycia Debnam-Carey) in his compound. Officer Dorie was unable to find solid evidence, so he planted one of the victim’s purses on Teddy so he could be arrested, convicted, and serve jail time for his crimes.

John Dorie Sr. will most likely play an important part in any altercation with Teddy and his group. He studied him for years and knew his personality well. This could prove very beneficial in recovering Alicia and whatever comes next.

Fear the Walking Dead has a Deadwood connection

Fear the Walking Dead has a connection to the HBO series Deadwood in its most recent episode.

Keith Carradine, who plays John Dorie Sr. portrayed Wild Bill Hickok in the HBO series Deadwood. Another familiar name in the series is Garret Dillahunt (John Dorie) as he played Jack McCall on Deadwood, (spoiler alert) a character killed by Carradine in that series.

The connections don’t stop there. Additional Fear the Walking Dead cast members who starred in both series include Kim Dickens who played Madison on Fear TWD and Joanie Stubbs on Deadwood. Remember Jeremiah Otto from seasons two and three? The actor who played Jeremiah was Dayton Callie and he played Charlie Utter on Deadwood.  Another common actor, Ray McKinnon, played Proctor John on Fear TWD  and his Deadwood character was Reverend Smith.
