One of the most negative things people say when talking about The Walking Dead is that the show has lost its audience. Fans can regularly see comments on social media to the extent of saying it is a dead show, questioning if it is still on or if people still watch the AMC zombie series.

The easy answer to these Debby downers is to look at the most-watched shows of 2020-2021 to find the answer. According to a recently released list of the 100 Most-Watched TV Shows from AOL, there is still a massive audience for the undead drama.

On the list, The Walking Dead clocked in at number 31 on the list of viewership among the key demographic of 18-49-year-old television watchers. On the surface, that doesn’t sound great until factoring in that most of the shows listed about it are either procedural dramas, sports, or reality programming.

For a program making its way into its 11th and final season, AMC has a chance to put a bow on the series while the franchise is still hot, setting up the transition to the new spin-off series featuring Carol Peletier and Daryl Dixon to be a smooth one.

In terms of total viewers, The Walking Dead may not have the viewership it once did but dipped to the number 88 spot on the list with 3.7M viewers regularly. This is a strong number for a show that has been running for over a decade and has seen many of its popular characters exit the series over the years.

The Walking Dead is a regular addition to this Top 100 list on an annual basis, but it is a bit surprising not to see Fear the Walking Dead creep its way into the top shows. Perhaps that will be one of the things to watch for on next year’s list from AOL.
