The Walking Dead: Is there a future for Magna and Yumiko?

The Walking Dead Universe has been home to some of TV’s best relationships. From Rick and Lori, Travis and Madison to Felix and Will, there are many great couples to support and love in this World. And this, of course, includes Magna and Yumiko!

However, unfortunately not every couple in the show has a happy ending. A prime example would be Maggie and Glenn, the emotions of their heartbreak are still heavily felt in the show today. The show goes far beyond walkers, and the root of it all is about family and love while surviving in a broken world.

During the past 11 seasons of TWD, 6 of Fear TWD and 1 of World Beyond, many couples have had very rocky roads and challenges to face, which in some more unfortunate situations leads them to break. But, just because something has become broken does not mean that the relationship can’t be repaired. Lori and Rick managed to work things out and this may be the case for Yumiko and Magna.

Is there a Future for Magna and Yumiko?

When we saw Yumiko (Eleanor Matsuura) and Magna Nadia Hilker), they were a strong couple braving their way through the apocalyptic world. We know they had a long history as we’ve heard in an explanation about their past. We know Magna was in court and Yumiko was her lawyer and they both fell head over heels for one another, despite Magna being sentenced this wasn’t enough to break their relationship.

It has been a relationship full of turns that have gone from one extreme to the other. However, their strong standing by each other sadly came to its end when Magna, in Season 10’s “Walk With Us,” realized that maybe the future of both their lives wasn’t together in a loving relationship but instead to separate. Shortly after a close call with her life, this revelation came to her when she thought about what things truly mean in this world. At least this wasn’t a messy split up, and it saw her and Yumiko respect each other and find ways to move on. But, is there a way to rebuild what they have had for so long, like rebuilding the world?

We have seen them fight for each other (and their communities) countless times against the walkers in their world, and I don’t think this relationship will end, especially when Magna learns of Yumiko’s capture by the commonwealth. We could very well see a meeting that pays some tribute to Maggie and Glenn’s heart-warming reunion scene in Season 4’s “Us.” Perhaps they will want to pick back up with the love they had before. Sometimes space can be vital to helping people work things out. Is this what Magna needed?

Maybe some awkward friction is on the cards for the duo – much like Abraham’s ‘break up’ with Rosita. I sure hope not! This would be a world away from the caring exchanges these two amazing characters have given each other in the past. They are both super strong and awesome individuals that, together or not – have what it takes in the world to be a good person and also survive!

We will have to find what the future holds for them when The Walking Dead returns on August 22 on AMC, Star on Disney+ August 23 for UK viewers.
