The Walking Dead’s second spin-off series, The Walking Dead: World Beyond, has wrapped filming on its second and final season. This series was developed as a limited two-season series that will take us into The Walking Dead movies where Andrew Lincoln will again don his boots and become Rick Grimes.

World Beyond is a coming-of-age series set in the same time period as The Walking Dead. The series introduces the Campus Colony that was established at Nebraska State University in Lincoln, Nebraska. This colony is a walled community that has kept its younger residents isolated from what is going on outside the walls.

The series filmed in Virginia, where they recently filmed in Maymont Park, a 100-acre Victorian park located in Richmond. Residents there were shocked to see walkers milling about in the park.

Has The Walking Dead World Beyond completed filming?

The World Beyond cast and crew have posted many photos and IG stories announcing that filming for its second season has wrapped. This has to be a bittersweet time for all of them. This marks the end of the series, which will air sometime this year.

In season one, we saw sisters, Iris and Hope, with two new friends Elton and Silas, head outside the protection of the walls they have lived behind since right after the outbreak. They are on a quest to find the girl’s father, who has sent some distressing messages from a lab where he is working. This is an eye-opening experience for the foursome as they have never had to fight the undead lurking outside of their community. Eventually, they are joined by Huck and Felix, who know how to live and fight in the outside world. They meet with major challenges along the way, and someone is revealed as a double agent.

World Beyond and The Walking Dead movies

We have long heard about the three Walking Dead movies that will feature Rick Grimes. There has also been chatter about World Beyond leading into those movies. Andrew Lincoln, who plays Grimes, has stated he has signed on for more than one movie.

So, will World Beyond lead us there? Fans are hoping this is the case. The pandemic threw a wretch into every aspect of filming in the industry. But, things have started to ease up and filming is happening for many movies and shows. Will the end of World Beyond allow the movies to proceed? Let’s hope so.

The main cast of World Beyond consists of Alexa Mansour, Aliyah Royale, Nicolas Cantu, Hal Cumpston, Annet Mahendru, Nico Tortorella and Julia Ormond. Season one saw many recurring cast members, including Jelani Alladin, Joe Holt, Natalie Gold, Al Calderson, Scott Adsit and Ted Sutherland. The second season has added two recurring roles starring Robert Palmer Watkins and Max Osinski.

The Walking Dead: World Beyond has received negative feedback but viewers need to remember that this group isn’t anything like Rick Grimes’s group. Rick’s group had to live in the thick of it while trying to survive. The World Beyond group has been sheltered from what things are like in this new world for 10 years.

Watch for new episodes of The Walking Dead: World Beyond to air before the end of 2021.
