Fans of The Walking Dead comics have their favorite characters that they have always wanted to see come to life on screen. Fans cheered when iconic comic book characters appeared in the series, looking amazingly like their comic persona. Characters like Michonne, Ezekiel and Princess come to mind as standouts. In this week’s reveal, fans got an amazing look at Mercer, a character we have long heard about, and to finally see him was an outstanding moment.

It was announced a few months ago that Michael James Shaw was cast as Mercer, the Commonwealth officer who in the comics, would also become a bodyguard for Pamela Milton, Commonwealth Governor, and her son Sebastian.  Fans expressed their excitement as Shaw, already sporting a beard, did resemble the character.

At this time, there have been no announcements about casting for Pamela or Sebastian, so it is unclear if that portion of Mercer’s story will be in the seires. Another storyline involving Mercer is his relationship with Princess. This one is a good possibility as Princess is alive and well in the series and is being held by the Commonwealth.

The Walking Dead season 11 reveal teaser

We see a much larger version of The Wall of the Lost, a wall with photos and notes of missing family members of the Commonwealth residents. And then, we see the red helmet that can only be one person, Mercer. The focus puts him in the center of the screen as he slowly lowers the helmet, revealing this character looking just as he should.

Readers of the comics are very schooled in the Commonwealth, but series only watchers have only heard about them and don’t know what to expect. And, since the series doesn’t always follow comic stories, viewers will have to wait and see what is to come.
