Greg Nicotero talks final season of The Walking Dead and the movies
By Renee Hansen
Greg Nicotero talked with Comicbook.com ahead of his Comic Con@Home panels. He shared the finale season of The Walking Dead is 1/3 of the way through filming. It is still hard to believe that this series will actually be coming to an end.
Of course, the question of The Walking Dead films that would reprise Andrew Lincoln’s role as Rick Grimes came up. Nicotero said he has read various drafts of the scripts in the past few months, and creators are just making sure they get it right. He said, “They’re still alive.” So, that is good news to fans who are waiting for any news regarding these movies. We will just have to be patient as things wind down with the flagship series, and then attention to creating these movies can move forward.
Nicotero reflected that the atmosphere of filming the final season of this series is nostalgic. He commented how he was working with Lauren Cohan and remembers the first day of filming with her. He remembers that she was riding on a horse to make her entrance onto the series. He recalled, with Norman Reedus, about the episode in season 2 when Daryl was interrogating Randall and beating him up. He said that during filming, he has flashes of moments that happened 8 years ago. He also said they have done so much over the years of this series, a series that has been 1/3 of this career, that when they come to the finale, it will be hard to say goodbye.
The one thing he said that really stuck with me, that members of TWD Family can understand, The Walking Dead has never been just a job. This resonates with fans as we all feel this has never been just a series. It is a community, a family, a bond that has been built because of a series.
