Showrunner Angela Kang knows how The Walking Dead series will end
By Renee Hansen
Showrunner for The Walking Dead series Angela Kang has told Insider, “Yes, I believe I know how ‘The Walking Dead’ ends.” This is a bittersweet statement for the fandom. It is widely known the series will end with the eleventh season, but to see that statement in print makes it a reality.
The eleventh season of The Walking Dead will have 24 episodes that will be released in three parts. Part one releases on AMC on August 22, with AMC+ subscribers able to stream on August 15. The early release date has many fans concerned as spoilers will be rampant after that airing. The first eight episodes will be available to AMC+ subscribers one week early, which is a change from airing the Thursday ahead of the Sunday airing on AMC.
Kang has also stated that this season will give fans earlier seasons vibes and come back to the scope and tone fans love.
The Walking Dead final season, how will it end?
With a roadmap of sorts planned out, Kang said that individual episodes will still be refined as filming progresses. So, even though they have an idea of how it will end, getting to that point will still require some storytelling.
It was announced quite some time ago that Carol and Daryl will be getting their own spin-off series, which is exciting news, but we know these two characters will survive. This takes away any anxiety where these two characters are put in danger for the final season.
When Kirkman suddenly ended, the comics fans were shocked! But, he has stated that he knew for years how he would end the comic story. The series is missing many of the key players that made it to the end of the comic story, so we can’t guess that things will end as the comics did.
Some storylines featured in the comic feature characters no longer on the series that could be taken up by a new character. There have been great theories stating that Yumiko will take on Michonne’s story arc in the Commonwealth. Michonne was reunited with her daughter Elodie in the comics. Now, it looks like Yumiko will perhaps reunite with a relative of her own.
From the interviews with Kang, it sounds l like filming for the final season is about 1/2 way completed. Kang will be a guest in the August 15 preview special of Talking Dead with Norman Reedus and newcomer Michael James Shaw.
The Walking Dead returns to AMC on August 22 and AMC+ on August 15.
