The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon vs. The Reapers in season 11 – new photos
By Renee Hansen
The Walking Dead released over 60 new photos, and there is a lot to unpack in these new looks at season 11. We have seen many clips of Daryl Dixon (Norman Reedus) in the trailers and promos for this season. One thing we know is that the Reapers capture him, and from what we have seen of this group, they are fearsome to behold.
The photo below shows Daryl with Maggie, Agatha (Laurie Fortier), Duncan (Marcus Lewis) and Frost (Glenn Staton) in the subway tunnel we have seen in the teasers and trailer. The three newcomers are most likely other members of Maggie’s group, the Wardens. They are on a mission, presumably for food and supplies for the ever-growing population at Alexandria.
Whatever horrors the Wardens had to endure at the hands of the Reapers must have been horrible. Maggie will share some of what occurred, and we hear her state in a teaser clip, “By the time you see them, you are already dead.”
In the tunnel, they encounter a hallway filled wall to wall with body bags that contain walkers tied up and throats slashed. This is some sick stuff. Are the Reapers responsible?
Daryl Dixon The Walking Dead Season 11
In the most recent photos of Daryl, we see him alone with mud or walker guts on his face. Obviously, some sort of camouflage. Who is he hiding from?
Below we see Daryl fighting with a Reaper, and we have seen the clips of him tied and dragged away by more than one member of this group.
It will be interesting to see how he comes to be captured by this group. The theories that have circulated think that Leah is a Reaper and Daryl will see her again.
Many things point to this theory being correct. She was a part of a squad before she ended up living in the cabin, and she has a military tattoo. This doesn’t prove ties to the Reapers, but she has some military training, and the Reaper that was tracking Maggie and her group was most definitely military. Others think she might have been kidnapped by the Reapers and then joined their ranks.
One clip in the teaser features a masked Reaper with Dog standing next to them. And we know Dog was Leah’s before he went with Daryl. This is all speculation, but Lynn Collins, who plays Leah, is scheduled to appear in season 11.
Another theory is that someone else gets captured by the Reapers, and Daryl willingly gets captured to infiltrate and save them. My thought is it could be Negan because Daryl says, “I don’t leave anybody behind, not ever.” His emphasis on “not ever” makes me think it is someone others may not feel worthy of risking their lives for.
The Reaper storyline will be interesting as Alexandria is weak, and another attack could completely destroy it. But, this could force the residents of that community to head to the Commonwealth, a community that could handle an influx of new residents.
The Walking Dead’s season 11 premiere will air on AMC on August 22.
