When Maggie Rhee returned to the communities in season 10 of The Walking Dead, she brought some new friends. We would learn that these friends are called the Wardens, and they resided at a place called Meridian. After only airing six episodes, all but one of the Wardens remains.

Elijah was introduced in the season ten episode “A Certain Doom.” He met Aaron and Alden in the woods and rescued them as he welded two kama blades. No one had a clue as to who this masked stranger could be. Speculations were everywhere, from Morgan Jones’ son Duane to Morgan himself, Heath, even little Hershel who wouldn’t be nearly old enough and people thought it could be Mercer.

In “Home Sweet Home,” it would be revealed that this character is Elijah (Okea Eme-Akwari). There was no reason given for his mask, and no one seemed to question it.

Is Elijah a Reaper on The Walking Dead?

Since Elijah was introduced, why he wears the mask has been in question by fans. He removed it per Kelly’s (Angel Theory) request, and instead of a fierce-looking person, we saw a timid-looking young man. This was soon after we learned that Elijah’s sister was killed by the Reapers, the same group who killed everyone at Meridian and who still hunts Maggie.

Now, Elijah is the last of the Wardens left alive. Does he have a part yet to play? We know the Reapers killed his sister, but we don’t know if this was part of the mass killing of the villagers, or was this something more personal? His mask resembles what the Reapers wear. We see how Pope handles people who go against him. Could Elijah have been a Reaper? He doesn’t quite seem the type and seems a bit young for this group.

It seems that all this time there is something else driving Maggie to Meridian. Yes, Alexandria needs the food, but there is something she is leaving out. Perhaps this has to do with Elijah? They seem to be close and we know he is in the next episode “Promises Broken,” with her, Negan and Gabe.

Maybe we will let some back story on this character and what has gone on in his lie.
