Who is Ritchie Coster that plays Pope on The Walking Dead
By Renee Hansen
The final season of The Walking Dead has introduced the latest threat to Alexandria and its residents. The Reapers are primarily concerned with Maggie and the Wardens who used to reside at Merdian. But, if you mess with Maggie, you mess with Daryl and the lot. The leader of this group is a religious zealot named Pope and isn’t a man you want to cross.
Currently, Daryl has joined the ranks of the Reapers, not willingly but for survival. He was captured by this group and discovered that his friend Leah is a member of this group. This is the squad she referenced when she and Daryl spent time in the cabin.
This is no ordinary squad. Sure, they are military, they served their country in Afghanistan, and when they returned to acclimate to civilian life, it didn’t take. They hired themselves out as mercenaries, and when the outbreak started, and the government started bombing cities to try and stop the spread, Pope and his crew escaped unscathed. He felt this was a sign from God telling them they were the chosen ones. Now he is all fire and brimstone and, frankly, terrifying.
He is after Maggie and won’t stop until she is dead.
Who plays Pope on The Walking Dead?
Ritchie Coster is the actor who portrays the leader of the Reapers, Pope. He does an outstanding job of playing a man who says what he means and follows that with actions. He doesn’t mince words, and if he says it, the squad does it without a second thought.
So where else have you seen him?
Ritchie Coster of The Walking Dead
He has been acting since the late 90s, so most likely, you have seen him in at least one of his roles.
One of his more recent roles is in the series Happy! I haven’t had the pleasure, but I hear he is outstanding in this series. He plays Francisco Scaramucci/Mr. Blue and the Roman God of Death, Orcus. The series aired on Syfy and ran for two seasons that ended in 2019 and is available to stream on Netflix.
He is also known for his roles in Jonny Zero, Beautiful People, Law & Order, Guiding Light, The Dark Knight, American Gangster, The Bounty Hunter, Luck, True Detective, Shades of Blue, Jacobs Ladder and The Flight Attendant.
It will be interesting to see where the storyline involving Pope and the Reapers goes during the final season of The Walking Dead.
