The Walking Dead missed a HUGE opportunity with the Virgil story

I really wanted to love the mid-season finale of The Walking Dead’s season 11, part 1. I want the final season to be something spectacular, and I feel like certain areas that should be given more attention are being glossed over. For example, Carol and Connie, I wanted that to be more impactful. And Virgil being reacquainted with Judith was a missed opportunity.

Judith has borne her losses better than any adult we know. She has lost her father, her brother, and how her mother, and even though she doesn’t remember them all, she learns of them. She’s lost others along the way and has to endure the losses of others close to her. Not only that, she has had to do things no adult could handle.

With Virgil returning to the area with a new lease on life because of Michonne, this could have been an enormous opportunity for character growth for Judith.

Virgil could renew hope for Judith on The Walking Dead

The scene where Judith and Virgil talk about Michonne was such a letdown. He tells her she would be proud, and he doesn’t know where she is. When Judith tells him she hasn’t heard from her in so long, this would have been a perfect time to tell his story.

To tell how she gave him a second chance at life. And that he hasn’t squandered it. He went to Oceanside to be of assistance only to find Connie and help her return to her family. To show Judith that no matter how much she misses her mother, she is still out there doing good while searching for the Brave Man. This would have done so much to lift her spirits and know that her mother’s efforts aren’t in vain.

But, instead, they gave us a tepid scene. Kevin Carroll has the acting chops to have done this scene in the right way. It is incredibly disheartening that he wasn’t allowed to shine at this moment that could have meant so much to Judith and the fandom.
