Shipping has become the norm for any franchise, and The Walking Dead universe is no different. There are many different character pairings fans can dream about, and sometimes they just don’t fit. Showrunner Angela Kang has sunk one ship, and I, for one, am happy about it.

Fans of the series have been watching the Maggie and Negan storyline for eight episodes of season eleven, and somewhere along the way, they’ve decided this could take a romantic turn. First off, that is just a sick notion. Do people really want Maggie and the man who bludgeoned her husband with a barbed wire-wrapped baseball before her eyes to be in a relationship? Talk about sleeping with the enemy.

Negan’s admiration of Maggie is due to the respect he has for her. He knows what she has been through and what he put her through. Maggie has returned a very different person than the one who left, and she states as much. Gone is the farm girl from season two, and now we see a woman who has put on an amour of someone who has experienced horrific things and will do whatever she needs to protect those she loves.

Angela Kang shuts down Maggie and Negan shippers on Walking Dead

In a recent interview with Insider, showrunner Angela Kang simply states, “With these two, there’s not a romantic intent that we’re doing.” She’s speaking of the ongoing friction between Maggie and Negan.

Everyone knows and sympathizes with Maggie’s issues with Negan, but his actions for the past eight episodes have more than proved he has changed. Yes, he mentioned Glenn; this was a taunt to find out if she would kill him or not. If that comment didn’t force her hand, she most likely would never kill him. She has called him out on things and then does the exact same thing herself. The realization is, she is more like Negan than she cares to admit.

We don’t know the total outcome of the raid on Meridian, but we have already seen the positive results of these two characters working together. They can do good things when they put aside their differences and use their strengths for a common good.
