Sometimes, dealing with The Walking Dead requires…unconventional methods.

While infiltrating Meridian (And trying to find a means of getting out), Maggie happened upon a truck the Reapers used to move things around inside the camp (Where’d they get the fresh gas, by the way?). She looked for the keys, but the Reapers weren’t stupid enough to leave them lying around. So, rather than give up, Maggie improvised, hotwired the truck, and used it to smash the gates open and let the herd Negan was leading inside.

Under normal circumstances, I wouldn’t advise emulating Maggie’s behavior, but an apocalypse isn’t typical, now, is it?

When the apocalypse hits, even though many people will be gone and laws will evaporate, many of the things people used to keep their stuff safe will be left behind. This is all well and good until you need access to a dead person’s things, and they’re now protected by security measures they’re not using anymore. In these situations, you need to know how to bypass these things, preferably without setting off alarms and alerting every hostile and zombie within ten miles of you.

The skills needed to bypass these things aren’t exactly…scrupulous. Still, they’re skills that someone surviving a zombie apocalypse needs, whether turning on a car, getting inside a building, or gaining access to food or other necessary supplies. I can’t tell you how to learn these skills, but what I can tell you is that learning them will go a long way towards ensuring your survival, so, if you get the chance to learn how to do things like how Maggie got the Reapers’ truck working, you will do well to learn them.
