Who is Fear the Walking Dead’s Gus Halper?

Fear the Walking Dead has premiered its seventh season on AMC. This episode was very Strand-centric, and we met a new guy named Will, who Gus Halper plays.

Halper was announced as joining the cast during the Comic Con@home event. At that time, we knew he would play a character named Will, and that was all the information we got on this new character at that time.

Now, we have met Will and learned that he knew Alicia. Not only did he know her, but it also seems he loved her. Will was in the bunker with some colleagues, the same one that Teddy would take over and eventually trap Alicia in.

Will was a survivor. I loved seeing all that his character endured in this new apocalypse that has come right on top of the first one. He was a character I wish we could have seen more of him, especially the interactions between him and Strand. Will knew what Alicia told him about Strand, but otherwise, he had no clue who this person was. It allowed him the freedom to say whatever he thought, which is quite refreshing where Strand is concerned. Most everyone tiptoes around him, wondering what he will do next.

Strand’s decision to kill Will had little to do with him and more to do with Strand and his love for Alicia. He tells Will she is “The closest thing to family I have left.” He also shared with Will that the communities he has been involved with before suffered because love makes you weak.

It was nice to meet Will, and it’s too bad he is gone already.

Fear the Walking Dead Gus Halper

Gus Halper had his first role in a TV movie, Galyntine, where he starred with fellow Fear the Walking Dead castmate Alycia Debnam-Carey. This movie was directed and co-executive produced by The Walking Dead’s Greg Nictoero. This film is a sci-fi action-adventure that takes place after a  cataclysmic technology-induced disaster.

This would lead to a small role in the Meryl Streep lead film Ricki and the Flash. Halper also had roles in the TV series Public Morals, Power, Mercy Street, Law & Order True Crime: The Menendez Murders where he played Erik Menendez.

He also played the nephew of fellow Walking Dead cast member Ritchie Coster in Happy! Coster played Francisco “Mr. Blue” Scaramucci, and Halper played his nephew Michelangelo “Disco Mikey” Scaramucci.

Other roles he is known for include, Madam Secretary, Cold Pursuit, Ramy, Dickinson and Evil.  He starred in the TV series Jett with Carla Gugino.
