Robert Kirkman’s Renfield will star Nicholas Hoult and Nicolas Cage
By Renee Hansen
Renfield is the henchman to Bram Stoker’s 1897 Dracula. He will be the main focus in the new film title Renfield that is written by The Walking Dead’s Robert Kirkman. Deadline has reported that Nicholas Hoult will play the titular character with Nicolas Cage portraying Dracula.
Chris Kay (The Tomorrow War) will direct with a script written by Ryan Ridley (Rick and Morty), using the original story penned by Kirkman. Skybound Entertainment’s film team will produce, including Kirkman, David Alpert, Bryan Furst and Sean Furst.
Deadline has also reported that Awkwafina will join the cast in an undisclosed role. There is a lot known about the plot, but The Hollywood Reporter has stated that it will be a modern-day adventure story that is comedic in tone.
In Bram Stoker’s original story of Dracula, Renfield is an asylum patient who suffers from the delusion that he can eat living things, birds, insects, etc., and receives their life force.
Robert Kirkman Renfield
With Kirkman attached to this project, one wonders if we will see any Walking Dead cast members in roles for this film. Kirkman has used many TWD cast in his Invincible series, so it would be great to see at least one in this film as well. Kirkman has commented in the past that he couldn’t think of a Walking Dead actor he wouldn’t want to work with again.
Invincible has been renewed for a second season, so we may also see new TWD cast members in this series. We heard the voice talents TWD cast in season one, including Steven Yeun, Khary Payton, Lauren Cohan, Chad Coleman, Michael Cudlitz, Lennie James, Ross Marquand and Sonequa Martin-Green.
Renfield is in the very early stages, so we will keep you posted as more information becomes available.
