It won’t be too long until The Walking Dead will be back on our screens for part 2 of Season 11. The series will return to AMC on February 20, 2022. How exciting! And there is sure to be many character arcs to be further explored.

We are currently only 8 episodes into Season 11 and already, there have been an insane amount of unexpected twists and turns shocking fans. From Alden (Callan Mcauliffe) being left wounded, Maggie (Lauren Cohan) showing her darker side, the Commonwealth and a storm ripping through Alexandria, the show has gone wild with the stories so far. It is crazy to believe these are only a few storylines that have heated up!

One thing that has been super exciting to see is Maggie and her decision making with her group, the Wardens, and her old friends at Alexandria. She has a newfound determination to make the world a better place, as a mother to her father’s namesake, Hershel. But, will we see Hershel grow up to be exactly like his father in the remainder of Season 11?

The Walking Dead, will Hershel take after Glenn?

The first time viewers saw Hershel Rhee was during 714 “The Other Side,” when Maggie got a scan to see him whilst she was still pregnant. We get our first glimpse of the older version of Hershel (Kien Michael Spiller) in 1017 “Home Sweet Home,”  We see him as he sits calmly in a tree donning a very familiar red baseball cap when Maggie and Daryl (Norman Reedus) find him after a run-in with the Reapers.

Hershel’s parents are definitely two of the strongest powerhouses in TWD history. Maggie has been through so much during her time on the show, from losing her family to now losing nearly all of her group and community – she has not had it easy at all. Yet, she keeps on going and that is the power of still wanting to fight for what is left. Now that Maggie has Hershel she will never give up fighting and will continue to make excruciatingly difficult decisions for what will protect her and her family.

Hershel’s dad is the incredible TWD legend himself, Glenn Rhee (Steven Yeun) who sadly met his demise in the unforgettably traumatic 701 “The Day Will Come When You Won’t Be.” This is still one of the most pivotal episodes in the series. Glenn was always a strong bad ass warrior who also had a great calming warmth emit from him. And the thing that mattered most to him was his family.

Family is such a common trait to the Rhee family and their family unit shows the lighter side of the apocalypse. Even though Hershel is still young we can already see these traits in him. The intuitive side of him hiding from the Reapers is a trait adopted by him from his parents quick thinking. But, the main trait seen in Hershel that is so representative of his upbringing is caring.

Hershel has already proved himself to be fully selfless. During 1105 “Out Of The Ashes,” he and Gracie offered to help an upset Judith fix her and Carl’s hand print wall hanging. He has a great emotional attachment to his friends and will stick by them, no matter what. Also keeping in a tight group with the other kids in the apocalypse in 1108 “For Blood,” during the storm, showed that during a dangerous situation he realises those around are the important things left in the damaged World.

Glenn always stood by Rick’s, and his communities, side. He had a close call many times but somehow always pulled through with his determination and Hershel clearly has this to, there is definitely such a strong resemblance between him and his father despite the fact he sadly never got to know his dad. His memory has been kept alive and I think in the future, Hershel definitely will be even more alike his great parents!

One thing is certain, Maggie is extremely proud of her son and will continue to be. And if Glenn was still with us he to would be full of pride, and as he should be! And there is definitely much more left to see from the Rhee’s in Season 11!
