Season 11 of The Walking Dead has been throwing many shocks to its fans. It has not disappointed, and we have seen some incredibly stressful scenes so far, along with the fall of many people trying to protect their communities. In true keeping of The Walking Dead, our characters aren’t having an easy time.

Threats have always been in the world and always will be. But, when we encounter new ones, it’s a shock to the system. This is certainly no different in the apocalypse, and recently Daryl Dixon (Norman Reedus) has seen a new threat up close.

This new threat is a group Maggie (Lauren Cohan) has detailed to us in previous episodes to be ruthless, and they are called the Reapers. They are led by Pope (Ritchie Coster), who shows little to no emotion and feels he is on a mission from God.

Are the Reapers a threat to Daryl in The Walking Dead?

We haven’t seen many of the Reapers in The Walking Dead, but we know they aren’t a large group, and Daryl also knows this. From what we have seen of them, it is evident these guys aren’t the friendliest of folks. From throwing blades around to kill innocent people to setting members of their group on fire, the Reapers are a considerable threat.

Daryl has been accepted into their group and community after they captured him. Not that this is what he wants, but he has the personality needed to get information from them and figure out precisely what they want. It seems they want to take settlements from others along with all of their food and supplies, showing little mercy for those who they encounter; they want to be the worthy ones left in the apocalypse.

During Season 1104, “Rendition,” it was clear to fans that Daryl had a big task on his hands with keeping his cool in this terrifying group despite their harsh tactics to try and gain information such as waterboarding. I mean, come on guys – upside down, bag over the head and gallons of water in poor Daryl’s face? What’s happened to warm welcomes in the apocalypse!

But even though Daryl’s time with the Reapers has been short, they seem to value him, even if their way of showing it is by nearly setting him on fire. But they still cannot be trusted at all. Their tactics for military-style fighting sets them apart from anything we have seen so far in The Walking Dead, and their religious beliefs also seem to be very prominent, with Pope believing he knows who the ‘Chosen Ones’ are.

Daryl has lots of experience with the wrong people left in the world, and his fearless attitude seems to always shine through, and of course, his kick-ass crossbow will help him fight these new villains. We also now know, Leah (Lynn Collins) sees the Reapers as her family and keeps her safe when she doesn’t have anything. At the moment, he isn’t in a hurry to leave but is trying to discreetly get Daryl to play on her side for now so he doesn’t feel Pope’s wrath. But this isn’t enough to win over Daryl and make him pack his bags and motorbike and move in so they can live happily ever after!

Daryl has been initiated, but he may be running for the hills at the first chance he gets to warn the others about what he has seen during his time spent with the Reapers. As he is pretending to be a lone survivor with no friends, they might not worry too much if he were to disappear, but if they were to find him again, I doubt they would be handing out second chances to be on side with his ‘brothers and sisters.’

After all Daryl has been through, and even as unhinged and disturbing as Pope is, Daryl would have a strong chance at fighting against him and winning. At the moment, the only other threat to Daryl is worrying about the residents of Alexandria starving, and he would do anything to protect those he loves.

The Reapers are not to be messed with and are a danger to Daryl and everyone who isn’t one of their own. This fire-loving group is sure to throw many problems (and weapons!) in the way of our favorites for the rest of Season 11’s duration. Let’s hope they meet their match when all of the other communities, hopefully, reunite and maybe we will see The Pope have a showdown with Daryl.
