In 2020 it was announced that The Walking Dead series would air its final season. This was a blow to the fandom as no one expected this abrupt end. The blow was softened when fans learned that the last season would consist of 24 episodes, technically making it almost two seasons’ worth of episodes.

The eleventh season would be released in three parts, each containing eight episodes. In 2021 the first part of this season aired, and things got off to an excellent start to the final season. The part one finale left many open-ended stories that will resume in part two.

The main focuses of this season have been neverending the tension between Maggie and Negan, the Reapers, Alexandria in dire straights and the Commonwealth.

Walking Dead season 11 schedule

Season 11 part 1 – August 22 – October 10, 2021

Season 11 part 2 – February 20 – April 10, 2022

Season 11 part 3 – TBA

The above dates are the AMC viewing dates, but all episodes are available one week early to AMC+ subscribers.

Hopefully, the second part of this season will wrap up the Reaper story arc, as many feel this was an unnecessary storyline that has done nothing to further the final chapter. We will also see much more of the Commonwealth and be introduced to Governer Pamela Milton. The teaser trailer appears to show the Commonwealth descending on Alexandria.

The premier date for part three of this season has yet to be announced, but it could be as early as August 2022 if the release follows the part one release date.

Fans of the series hate to see it send, but with the promise of The Walking Dead movies, multiple spin-off series, and the renewal of Fear the Walking Dead for an eighth season, the franchise isn’t over yet.

Another exciting story has opened up with The Walking Dead World Beyond’s post-credit scene. Set in France, this scene opened up the possibility of a variant walker and stories of what has gone on in other parts of the world.

The Walking Dead returns to AMC on February 20, 2022.
