The Walking Dead season 11 Aisha Tyler will direct in final season
By Renee Hansen
Aisha Tyler is everywhere in The Walking Dead universe. We have seen her in the director’s chair for Fear the Walking Dead and The Walking Dead World Beyond. She even stepped in front of the camera in Fear TWD season 7 “Till Death” where she played Mickey. Now, she will direct in the eleventh and final season of the flagship series The Walking Dead.
Duane Charles Manwiller, who I am always reminding you to follow on IG, is the Director of Photography for TWD, has shared some fantastic BTS photos for season 11. In the most recent post (below), we see Carol (Melissa McBride) and Ezekiel (Khary Payton) standing in what appears to be the bakery at the Commonwealth. Manwiller’s caption tells us that the woman whose back is to us is non-other than Aisha Tyler in her role as director.
This is exciting news as Tyler has become a fixture within the fandom, and her contributions have been outstanding.
The Walking Dead fandom Aisha Tyler
Tyler made her directorial debut within the fandom with Fear TWDs episode “J.D.” which introduces us to John Dorie Sr. (Keith Carradine). In World Beyond, she directed the third and fourth episodes of the second season, “Exit Wound” and “Family is a Four Letter Word.”
In Fear TWDs seventh season, she appeared in the fifth episode where she played Mickey, part of the pro-wrestling duo known as The Bride and The Groom. She met Dwight (Austin Amelio) and Sherry (Christine Evangelista) and joined their Dark Horses group to search for PADRE. It isn’t clear if we will see Mickey in additional episodes of this series.
Now, Tyler will direct the flagship series. The photo’s caption tells us this is a scene in the Commonwealth, and we see Carol and Ezekiel visit that community in the final season. Obviously, they are in the bakery, where Yumiko (Eleanor Matsuura) found her brother Tomi (Ian Anthony Dale).
The teaser for part 2 of season 11 looks to be very Commonwealth-centric with the introduction of Governor Pamela Milton (Laila Robins), the Commonwealth soldiers arriving at Alexandria, and what appears to be some of the main characters in that community.
The Walking Dead returns to AMC on February 20, 2022.
