Judith Grimes has had to experience so much loss for a child so young in The Walking Dead series. The character, currently portrayed by Cailey Fleming, is a child who is going to places in her career. She is an extremely talented actress who has brought so much life to Judith since taking over the role as an older Judith after the time jump in season nine.

Judith was born in the apocalypse, and viewers have followed her journey from her horrific birth in the prison in season three to the current timeline. Dubbed Little Asskicker by her uncle Daryl she has lived up to that name as she defends herself and others in recent seasons.

The clip below highlights a conversation with Daryl after Michonne went off to find Rick. Judith knows that Michonne is following clues that could lead her to Rick. But, in the clip, Judith doesn’t tell Daryl the whole truth, knowing he would also leave her to go off searching as well. We don’t often see Judith express so much emotion, and it is heartbreaking to see.

Judith Grimes season 11 of The Walking Dead

The last we saw of Judith in the season 11 part one finale, she and Gracie were trapped in the flooded basement of the house in Alexandria. During the storm, a horde of walkers entered the community via damaged walls and eventually entered the house where a group had taken shelter.

The final scene of the two girls (below) shows the pair in dire straights as they fend off many walkers.

In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Showrunner Angela Kang gave some good insight into Judith and her journey going forward in season 11:

"Judith is in a headspace where the community she has functionally grown up in almost her whole life — and probably the only place she really remembers — is just falling apart around her. And this is a time when Judith has to be strong for people like the younger kids, but she’s still very much a child. We’ve been thinking a lot about this apocalyptic scenario we write and how there is so much weightiness placed on the children, and that there’s so much they have to bear and [they have] be mature in the face of not knowing where their own family is.We wanted to touch on that, but also show that in Judith is the child of her parents and her community around her. She does figure out how to pull it together, even if she feels like she’s falling apart a little bit inside. She’s been put into extraordinary circumstances, and how is she going to deal with that? Because much like Carl [Chandler Riggs], she’s had to face things nobody her age should have to alone."

Part two of season 11 will return in February, and we will learn the girls’ fate. They will undoubtedly survive, but it will be exciting to see how they accomplish this feat.

As the series quickly comes to an end, what will be in store for Judith? Will she ever see their mother and father again? Will her brother RJ ever meet his father? Perhaps we will have to wait until The Walking Dead movies to see that reunion, but viewers deserve to see it played out at some point.
