The Walking Dead season 11 – Betrayal

A betrayal in an apocalypse may not be the kind of Shakespearean stab in the back you might imagine it to be. While it’s possible there will be situations where something more dramatic or energetic may occur, a betrayal could just as easily be something relatively mundane, quiet, and, rather than unseen.

I think a good example of this can be found with Mr. Lance Hornsby (Josh Hamilton) in this season of The Walking Dead. When we last left him, he had told Eugene his ability to help him had run out. Punching the governor’s son was something that Hornsby simply didn’t have the capacity to fix unless, of course, Eugene revealed the location of his home.

And, there it is. No stab in the back, no gun pointed in one’s face, no dramatic confrontation about a nefarious scheme. It was just a friendly guy Eugene only knew for a couple of days, pretty much forcing him to give up the most important secret he has. That’s how ordinary a betrayal can be in the apocalypse, and the worst part is, Eugene didn’t even realize what it was.
