AMC wants to ensure that there are no surprises by the end of The Walking Dead series. At least, that is how it seems with all of the spinoff announcements. However exciting it is to know some of our favorite characters will continue in The Walking Dead universe, it takes a lot of the suspense away now that we know four majors will survive the final season.

Now, no matter what happens, we know that Maggie, Negan, Daryl and Carol will all make it out alive. Unless, as my husband has said, maybe Daryl turns and Carol just keeps him as a pet. Even Morgan was shocked that AMC announced his spinoff ahead of the final episode.

Isle of the Dead is the title for the Maggie and Negan spinoff set in Manhattan. There have been no announcements as to what will take them to NYC, but we know the island is overrun with walkers and humans living in a state of anarchy.

Isle of the Dead filming in New York

All of the filming for the flagship series has taken place in Georgia, Fear the Walking Dead was previously filmed in Texas, and World Beyond was filmed in Virginia. Fans weren’t sure where Isle of the Dead would film, but it would be hard to make Georgia look like Manhattan.

In an interview with The Rick Eisen Show, Morgan stated that he was excited for Isle of the Dead as it would film in Manhattan. Morgan lives at his Mischief Farm in upstate New York, allowing him to be much closer to his wife and children. He stated they have been filming the final season for 17 months. That is a long time to be away from home for anyone.

"“I think seeing zombies in Manhattan is gonna be kinda super fantastic. I’m really excited about that. We’ve got a studio on the Jersey side, and then we’ll shoot in the city.” Jeffrey Dean Morgan"

The final episode is currently filming but has had to pause while Norman Reedus recovers from a concussion he received on set on March 11. He is doing well and will be back to work soon.
