The Walking Dead only has nine episodes remaining in the final season of the series. Things in the last season have seen a heavy focus on the Commonwealth and the workings of Deputy Governor Lance Hornsby (Josh Hamilton). He appears to be a bit of a snake and a dangerous one at that.

Hornsby is the right-hand man to Governor Pamela Milton of the Commonwealth. He is a friendly fellow on the outside, but what he offers up seems too good to be true.

As we learn more about him, his true colors are being revealed, and there is a devious nature to him that will either get him in serious trouble, or he will end up taking over as leader of the Commonwealth.

The Walking Dead – Lance Hornsby

In the most recent episode, “Trust,” Hornsby knows what truly happened at Riverbend but cannot find proof. Hornsby is an observant person and sees things others may not notice. This is why he has been able to climb his way to the top and can do things behind the governor’s back.

When Aaron and Gabriel tell him the tale about some ruthless strangers killing everyone but the two of them, he immediately figures out the attackers must know Aaron and Gabriel. This makes him believe that Maggie and her group were involved.

When he pushes his way into Hilltop, Maggie, knowing his involvement in the events at Riverbend, is reluctant to trust him. Daryl steps in, knowing she will trust him instead, and they can avoid any bloodshed.

Hornsby watches Maggie closely as he questions her, trying to figure her out. He is still displeased that she turned down his offer to help Hilltop and will use any excuse to take her down. But, he underestimates the group at Hilltop when he questions Hershel, and they turn on him. This is the first time he has witnessed the small group’s strength. He smoothed things over with his creepy smile and flowery words, but this act will not go unpunished.

At the end of the episode, the Commonwealth troopers discover Leah’s camp, where she has the stolen guns, and try to get the jump on her. She is highly skilled at combat and instead attacks them. Lance calms things down and then tells her he wants to offer her a job.

Will he hire her to get back at Maggie and Hilltop? He has seen that she can handle herself against a group of skilled CW troopers. If so, she will be more than obliging as Maggie killed all of her remaining Reaper family.

Many fans aren’t thrilled that they have, once again, brought Leah back. Perhaps there is a bigger story she will be involved in. She is quite dangerous as she is very skilled and has nothing to lose!
