AMC has aired The Walking Dead’s last midseason premiere, “Acts of God,” and now fans wait until fall 2022 for the series to resume with the last eight episodes. It was an action-packed episode that has set things up for the conclusion of the series. Due to recent underhanded events at the Commonwealth group, our survivors living there have teamed up with the governor’s assistant Max to go after the Milton’s. This includes Ezekiel (Khary Payton), who has been given a second chance at life.

In season 10, Ezekiel begins to develop what he believes is thyroid cancer, a condition for which he has a family history. Cancer is never a good diagnosis, especially in an apocalypse where treatment is practically non-existent. But, Ezekiel pushed on because we all know his saying, “And yet, I smile.”

Once Eugene, Yumiko, Princess and Ezekiel arrive at the Commonwealth, things start to improve for him as they have medicine and medical professionals to aid and treat him. When his good friend Carol discovers he is way down the list of surgery patients, and if he doesn’t receive the surgery soon, he will die. She does what she does best and gets him to the top of the list.

Now, Ezekiel is living large post-surgery and helping others. At the end of the recent episode, he joins Kelly, Connie, Eugene, Rosita, Max and Magna in their plight to take down the Miltons and the other unsavory officials of the Commonwealth.

Khary Payton posted a great video on Instagram as he says goodbye to Dwight, the name he gave his tumor, for the last time.

If you are unfamiliar, Dwight K. Schrute is a character portrayed by Rainn Wilson on The Office sitcom. The story goes that when Dwight was in the womb, Dwight absorbed a twin, so he has the power of a full-grown man and that of a tiny baby. Sadly, if you have never watched The Office, this will still make no sense, but Office fans are sure to get a kick out of this bit of trivia.
