As the final season of The Walking Dead airs, it is fun to look back at memorable moments in the history of the series. In 2010 the series premiered on AMC on Halloween night, and no one could have dreamed that the series would create such a unique fandom. Recently we looked back at TWD’s first San Diego Comic-Con appearance; today, it’s the first appearance at New York Comic-Con.

On Sunday, October 10, 2010, Executive Producers Frank Darabont, Gale Anne Hurd and Robert Kirkman were joined by cast members Andrew Lincoln, Sarah Wayne Callies, Jon Bernthal, Laurie Holden, Norman Reedus and Steven Yeun for the NYCC Walking Dead panel.

This event would feature an exclusive preview and the first reveal of full scenes from the highly anticipated Walking Dead series that would premiere later in the month.

The Walking Dead season 1

It is very interesting to look back and see the cast members in attendance.  Carol Peletier (Melissa McBride), who would be one of only two characters from season 1 to see the final season and become a huge fan favorite, is absent. At that time, who would have thought the abused housewife would end up being one of the apocalyptic badasses?

In season 1, Darabont served as writer, director and executive producer. He is well-known for his work on The Shawshank Redemption and The Green Mile. Comic book story creator Robert Kirkman served as executive producer, as did Gale Anne Hurd, known for her work on The Terminator, Aliens and Armageddon.

Of the actors in attendance at the first Walking Dead NYCC panel, Lincoln’s character Rick Grimes is the only survivor. Although the character is no longer on the series, he is expected to be seen in a series of Walking Dead movies.

Callies portrayed Rick’s wife Lori, Bernthal, his best friend Shane Walsh, and Laurie Holden portrayed Andrea, Norman Reedus, Daryl Dixon and Yeun, Glenn Rhee. Each of these characters made an impact on the story.
