Fear the Walking Dead: Jenna Elfman’s June deals with heavy losses
By Renee Hansen
Jenna Elfman has portrayed June on Fear the Walking Dead since season 4. She has gone by many names throughout her time on the series, but after her marriage to John Dorie (Garret Dillahunt) is known as June Dorie. She is a tough woman with a heart of gold who has suffered through some significant difficulties. Will she ever catch a break?
This article contains spoilers for the most recent Fear the Walking Dead episode, “Sonny Boy.”
June Dorie is a caring woman who served as a trauma nurse before the outbreak. This type of profession cannot be handled by a weak person as they constantly deal with life or death situations. This prepared June to handle the apocalypse in a very different way than most. She had already been a person who helped others and continues to do so even in Strand’s (Colman Domingo) Tower.
This week’s episode “Sonny Boy” gave June another tough blow as her father-in-law John Dorie Sr. (Keith Carradine), sacrificed himself to save baby Mo. And she is caring for Charlie (Alexa Nisenson), who is gravely ill with radiation poisoning and doesn’t appear to have much longer to live.
Fear the Walking Dead – June Dorie
When June lost John in season 6, it was difficult for her. Events like these will make or break a person, and it appeared that it might just break her. But, she summoned the courage to end Ginny (Colby Minifie) and has continued.
When she and Dorie Sr. battle their own demons in the bunker after the nuclear blast, it once again appears that June might crack. But, she rallied again and is now the only one with any medical knowledge at the Tower, making her incredibly valuable to Strand. And also makes her an anomaly in TWDU as she could be the longest surviving doctor of any of the series.
Now June has lost Dorie Sr. and most likely will lose Charlie soon. Hopefully, she can continue to gain strength as she will need it for what is to come.
How will Strand respond to her and Grace’s (Karen David) betrayal of removing Mo from the Tower back into Morgan’s (Lennie James) care? June is vital to him, but Strand doesn’t always think of those things before reacting. He told Morgan he would kill them if Morgan returned to the tower.
The remaining episodes of season 7 will see the survivors take sides in the battle for the Tower. Viewers will also see the impactful return of Madison before this season ends.
AMC will air the next episode of Fear the Walking Dead, “The Raft,” on May 15 at 9 p.m. ET. This episode is currently available on AMC+.
