Skybound has announced that fans of the Creepshow series and original film will see more stories via a new comic book series. The film, released in 1982, directed by George A. Romero and written by Stephen King, has lived on with the Shudder TV series led by The Walking Dead director and SFX master Greg Nicotero. The new comic is set to release on September 21, 2022.

The Creepshow comic will feature five standalone stories featuring different creative teams for each. The teams will be comprised of creatives from comics, film, television and more.

According to Skybound, the creative roster for the comic includes Chris Burnham (Die!Die!Die!), Paul Dini (Batman: The Animated Series), Steve Langford (Creepshow TV series), Josh Malerman (Creepshow TV series, Bird Box), David & Maria Lapham (Stray Bullets), Steve Foxe (Razorblades: The Horror Magazine), John McCrea (Hitman), and Kelley Jones (Batman, The Sandman), with many more to be announced. Brian Witten is overseeing on behalf of Nicotero’s Monster Agency Productions.

Creepshow franchise

Creepshow was inspired by EC Comics, a publisher of horror comics in the 1940s and 50s, most notably the Tales of the Crypt series.  Romero and King were fond of the publisher and put their heads together to create Creepshow, their anthology of tales. And, to keep the feel of the comic, they employed Tom Savani, a long-time SFX guru, to carry that into the film.

The announcement of the Creepshow comic is exciting news for fans of the franchise. Fans enjoy the campy, creepy feel of this franchise and a comic seems the next logical step in its continuance.

Greg Nicotero had this to say about the comic:

"Growing up a fan of horror comics and Famous Monsters, I will never forget the thrill of seeing a new issue hit the stands. Thumbing through the pages with the anticipation of diving into a dark, twisted and outrageous world filled with ghouls, zombies and the classic come-uppence. I’m very proud to see Creepshow find its rightful place on comic book shelves everywhere!”"

Shudder TV – Creepshow series

Shudder announced that Creepshow has been renewed for a fourth season earlier this year. The series was launched in 2019, continues from the 1982 film, and ignores its two sequels. Each season features two segments within an episode, with seasons 1 and 3 containing six episodes and season 2 having five episodes.

AMC Network has published a book Shudder’s Creepshow: From Script to Scream, that is an in-depth behind-the-scenes look at the series. This book will release on October 25, 2022, and can be pre-ordered now.
