The Walking Dead’s very own resident Taterbug aka Dr. Eugene Porter, actor Josh McDermitt celebrates his 44th Birthday today. A massive Happy Birthday to you, Josh, from all of us!

Eugene has made leaps and bounds throughout his time on the show. His arc is one unlike any other on TWDU. From lying to gain safety and survival to fooling the group into believing he was with Negan and the Saviors. It is clear to see how dynamic his range is and how we never truly know what a character’s next steps are.

However, in later seasons, Eugene has fully transformed into a brave survivor and fighter that has since found his new counterpart in Blue Weevil, Max (Margot Bingham). And they have since formed a beautiful bond. But what do the final 8 episodes of the mothership show hold for him?

The last we have seen of Eugene was during 1116 “Acts of God” when he alongside Magna, Connie, Kelly, Max and Ezekiel plan to publish an article exposing the darker side of the Commonwealth which, when published, reads ‘Pamela Milton is lying to you.” This is a risky move for all of these protagonists as the Commonwealth is the place in which they currently reside. And after all we have seen of Lance Hornsby (Josh Hamilton), he isn’t someone you want to be on the wrong side of.

In this episode viewers also saw a deeper side into Eugene’s relationship with Max as he woke up asking her about their shared night together. I think viewers can be almost certain that the couple won’t be splitting nor parting anytime soon and as Eugene said himself, he “will be by her side hell or high water.” During 11C we will for sure witness their bond grow and could it even end with a wedding? I really hope so!

If the end of the comics is anything to go by, Eugene ends up building a railroad after a few more years have passed. The end goal for this is to bring the East and West together via this railroad so it makes commutes easier. We could potentially see the same in the series with a maybe aged-up Eugene looking on at his works proudly.

However, as we all know TWD can change things super-fast and shock us all. Eugene could be involved in a major fight with the Commonwealth and potentially be banished from ever entering the community again. Perhaps he will find himself back at a maybe rebuilt Hilltop or Alexandria, there is even the chance that maybe he will breeze through before settling down with some chocolate bunnies and lobster! But with Lance around, I am not so sure.

Whatever happens, I cannot wait to see Eugene develop, even more, let’s hope he remains happy and healthy. I especially cannot wait to see more of his growing relationship with Max!

All the best to Josh McDermitt today and all days!
