Fear the Walking Dead – expectations do not equal reality

Last week, I suggested that P.A.D.R.E. might, rather than be run by the U.S. government, be run by the Civic Republic Military. Knowing what we know about them, this would make P.A.D.R.E. perhaps even more frightening because the CRM have already shown their willingness to wipe out tens of thousands of innocent people for the sake of secrecy or other nebulous ideals.

Of course, if Morgan and his group are coming into their encounter with P.A.D.R.E. expecting them to be the government or someone else who’s supposed to be relatively benevolent, they’ll be in for a rude awakening should they find the CRM instead. This is a group that doesn’t greatly value people unless they find them useful in some way. They may think that they can try to reason or negotiate with them, only to discover that the CRM doesn’t give a rat’s ass about making deals, and just see anyone even remotely disruptive as a bug to be exterminated.

Furthermore, if they succeed in rescuing Mo (and maybe the other children) and try to escape, they’ll likely be unpleasantly surprised to learn that their enemies don’t simply have Coast Guard ships, but also, a fleet of helicopters at their command, who can make relatively short work of scouring the gulf coast for anyone out on open waters.

It’s important in the apocalypse to not let your own expectations of what you might encounter get out of hand, because, if those expectations cause you to take an adversary too lightly when you discover you misjudged things, it might be too late to fix it, and put you at a severe disadvantage.
