Walking Dead spin off, Isle of the Dead begins filming
By Renee Hansen
Jeffrey Dean Morgan has been teasing that production for his next project, The Walking Dead spinoff, Isle of the Dead, would begin soon. This is exciting news for the fandom and explains why he and Lauren Cohan won’t be in attendance at Comic Con 2022.
Isle of the Dead will see Morgan and Cohan portray their Walking Dead characters, Negan and Maggie, in a new storyline set on the island of Manhattan. Filming will take place in Manhattan and in a studio in New Jersey. Many viewers have thought it odd to pair this duo, but the final eight episodes will likely shed light on what takes them on their next adventure.
Little has been revealed about what this series will entail, and so far, only one additional cast member has been announced. Gaius Charles will play a character named Perlie Armstrong. This character is ruthless and confident in what he believes is justice. The work he is tasked with brings him joy, and he is quick to interject humor into the terror he incites. He is a family man devoted to making the world a safe place for his wife and daughters.
UPDATE JULY 22, 2022:
Morgan shared the script’s cover page for the pilot on Instagram to the delight of his fans.
Isle of the Dead begins filming
Earlier this week, rumors that the series would begin filming circulated on several media outlets. Morgan teased fans that he and Cohan read the script, and it would blow fans’ minds. All this led to much excitement as fans long for more TWD content knowing the end of the main series will be coming soon.
Negan and Maggie have been at odds since her return during season 10. She understandably detested the man who brutally killed her husband Glenn (Steven Yeun) and hadn’t been present during the past several years that he did many things to try and redeem himself of his past sins. She may never forgive and forget what he has done, but she has begun to trust him, which says a lot. It is difficult to imagine what will take this pair from their current location to New York. It is unclear if anyone else will be joining them, like Negan’s new wife Annie (Medina Senghore), who is pregnant with his child, or Maggie’s son Hershel (Kien Michael Spiller).
Isle of the Dead is scheduled to premiere sometime in 2023.
