The Walking Dead – Rick and Michonne

Fans went wild in Hall H as Lincoln and Gurira took the stage to make the surprise announcement. This was directly following the final Comic Con panel of The Walking Dead.

Rick and Michonne were the apocalyptic power couple. Rick’s departure from the series was something fans weren’t ready for and have longed for his return.

It was assumed that Rick died during an explosion, but when Michonne discovered he survived, she set off to find him. Since then, their children, Judith and RJ, a child Rick doesn’t know about, have been cared for by Daryl, Carol, and other survivors.

Gurira had this to say regarding the series:

"“Michonne and this TWD family has meant so much to me, and to continue the journey of these beloved characters, alongside Scott and Andy, both creatively and in front of the camera, and bringing The Walking Dead fans something truly special is just glorious. I can’t wait to pick up the katana again.”"

According to Justin Kroll, Deadline: According to sources, the decision to go the limited series route happened following a regime change at AMC networks with new leadership preferring to wrap up this story on their network rather than in theaters.
