Negan and Maggie spinoff Dead City adds more cast
By Renee Hansen
The Walking Dead universe has several spinoffs in production, including one that will see enemies turned allies, Negan (Jeffrey Dean Morgan) and Maggie (Laurie Cohan), set off on a mission to Manhattan. The series is titled Isle of the Dead Dead City and began filming last week in New Jersey.
The announcement of this spinoff shocked fans and Morgan as it spoiled the fact that Negan and Maggie would survive to the end of The Walking Dead series. The main series will wrap up its storyline with its last eight episodes beginning October 2 on AMC.
The other shock was the pairing of these two characters, who have been enemies since Negan killed Maggie’s husband, Glenn (Steven Yeun), many years ago. But, the recent timeline threw the pair together, requiring them to co-exist for the great good of the communities.
Isle of the Dead’s Dead City’s plot has been kept under wraps so far, but we know the pair head to Manhattan, which has been cut off from the mainland since soon after the outbreak.
The series was created by Walking Dead COO Scott Gimple and Walking Dead veteran writer Eli Jorné, who will serve as the series’ showrunner. Kevin Dowling, who directed the first two episodes of TWD’s season 11, is directing episodes 3 and 4 of Isle of the Dead Dead City.
