Tales of the Walking Dead release date, cast, trailer and more
By Renee Hansen
The Walking Dead universe is saying goodbye to the flagship series but will be introducing several new spinoffs. Jeffrey Dean Morgan and Lauren Cohan will reprise their roles as Negan and Maggie as they head on a mission on the island of Manhattan in Isle of the Dead. Norman Reedus will be seen as Daryl Dixon in an overseas adventure in Europe in a yet-to-be-titled series. In a surprise announcement at Comic Con 2022, Rick (Andrew Lincoln) and Michonne (Danai Gurira) will get a series of their own. Another exciting addition is Tales of the Walking Dead.
This series is unique to the fandom as it will tell stand-alone stories in each episode. New or established characters will be featured in offshoot stories that tie into the world of The Walking Dead. It is an exciting concept as viewers will get stories of what else was happening while the main series story was being told. It is a concept that can potentially be something massive in the universe and could expand all of the series.
The series has several TWDU veterans involved, including showrunner Channing Powell who has written for The Walking Dead since season 4 and on the sixth season of Fear the Walking Dead. Veteran TWDU director Michael Satrazemis will direct three of the season 1 episodes. Satrazemis has also worked on TWD and Fear TWD. The remaining three episodes for this season were directed by Fear TWD director Ron Underwood and newcomers to the universe Haifaa al-Mansour and Deborah Kampmeier.
Tales of the Walking Dead release date
AMC recently announced that Tales of the Walking Dead would release its premiere episode on August 14, 2022, at 9 p.m. ET. This is the regular timeslot for all of TWDU series. AMC+ will premiere the first two episodes of the season that same day, with subsequent episodes airing one week early.
Tales of the Walking Dead cast
Since this series is an anthology based, it is easier for actors to commit to one episode than, say, a Daryl Dixon or Carol Peletier character that would extend to a 12-year commitment. This has brought a diverse and talented group of actors into The Walking Dead universe.

If you noticed, there is a familiar TWD name among the cast this season. Samantha Morton will reprise her role as the Whisperer’s leader, Alpha, for one episode of this season. But, in an exciting turn, she is referred to as Dee in the promo photos. At Comic-Con she stated that all of the backstories regarding Alpha and Lydia that viewers saw in The Walking Dead were from Lydia’s perspective. Not everything the child remembers was accurate. We are in for some great new content where Alpha/Dee is concerned.
