Fans of Maggie and Negan are excited about the upcoming spinoff, The Walking Dead: Dead City, that will feature the pair as they travel to Manhattan. This spinoff marks the fifth in The Walking Dead universe filming in New Jersey and New York  City. Fans have flocked to filming locations to get a sneak peek at Jeffrey Dean Morgan and Lauren Cohan, who play Negan and Maggie.

Eli Jorné, a TWD veteran writer and executive producer, created Isle of the Dead and will serve as showrunner and EP alongside TWD COO Scott M. Gimple, Morgan, and Cohan.  During Talking Dead: The Walking Dead Universe Preview special, Gimple shared that Maggie and Negan “kill the last eight episodes” of The Walking Dead with their incredible stories. This set the bar for the spinoff. He describes the current state of New York City as “crumbling and chaotic” and a “madhouse” full of conflict, which Negan and Maggie will enter into.

During the Talking Dead special, Morgan and Cohan shared a recorded video announcing that the pilot episode has been completed. Cohan said the series is full of conflict and is thrilling, and everything you probably want and more. Morgan went on to say that it is a very different environment for Negan and Maggie to go from the woods to the city full of buildings and streets, and he is excited for fans to see what they have been working on. It will “knock your socks off.”

Dead City – Negan and Maggie

Details about Dead City have slowly been revealed, although it isn’t yet known what will occur to team up with this unlikely pair.

During a recent interview with Variety’s Strictly Business podcast, the president of entertainment for AMC Networks and AMC Studios, Dan McDermott, shed more light on the series. At the beginning of the outbreak, the US government blew up the bridges and tunnels to Manhattan, cutting it off from the mainland. The walkers took over the island, growing to a horde one million strong. Humans must live above the tenth floor and travel via ziplines.

Additional cast includes Gaius Charles, Mahina Napoleon, Željko Ivanek, Jonathan Higginbotham, Karina Ortiz, Caleb Reese Paul, and Charlie Solis.
