Walking Dead Rick Grimes and Michonne series new details
By Renee Hansen
Fans of The Walking Dead universe were treated to great news amidst the emotional final panel held for the main series at Comic Con 2022. This news was that Andrew Lincoln and Danai Guirai would be reprising their roles as Rick and Michonne in a spinoff series of their own. I don’t think anything could have shocked the fandom more save for an announcement that the main series wasn’t ending. Hall H erupted in cheers, and social media was flooded with posts of excitement with the information.
During Talking Dead: The Walking Dead Universe Preview special that aired on AMC on August 7, Scott M. Gimple talked about several of the spinoff series, sharing some information about each one, including Rick and Michonne’s. He stated that he has been working closely with Lincoln and Guirai and other TWD veterans, as well as some new voices to develop the series. This is very encouraging as fans trust that Lincoln and Guirai will have outstanding input in telling Rick and Michonne’s continued stories.
Gimple did comment that we will see red machete Rick who handled the Terminites in season 5 and the katana welding warrior Michonne who dealt with the Governor in season 4. If that doesn’t get fans excited for this series, nothing will.
The Walking Dead – Rick and Michonne
One comment Gimple made that hits the heart of what viewers will see in this series was, “It’s an epic love story, but it’s an epic and insane love story.” This is so true of this couple who have endured much together and apart.
This duo will be significantly altered since the last time fans have seen them. Michonne has been through so much, grieving the loss of her love, who she thought dead, giving birth to their son RJ, who she thought would never see his father, raising his daughter, leading the communities, and then discovering that Rick didn’t die. The emotional roller coaster this woman has been on is insane.
And Rick, the brave man that he is, pulls the heroic move by blowing up the bridge, certain he would die in the process only to live and be taken away from his family by Jadis/Anne and transported to the Civic Republic. What has endured since then? Something horrific to keep him from his family for this long.
The Walking Dead universe is about the explode with several spinoffs in the works. The first to begin airing will be Tales of The Walking Dead on August 14 on AMC at 9 p.m. ET. AMC+ will release the first two episodes on that same date.
