When you hear the name Rick Grimes you think of The Walking Dead. He was the leader of the survivors in the comics and the series and most fans’ minds, the only true leader. The comic story ended in 2019, and by November 2022, the series will end its story as well. So, when did Rick die?

This is a two-fold answer, as with many characters featured in both the comic and series. In issue 191 of the comics, Rick, asleep in his bed, is woken by Sebastian Milton. He realizes Sebastian is armed with a silenced pistol and tries to talk him out of what he is about to do. Sebastian sees that everyone thinks Rick is a god and believes he will ruin what Pamela has built at the Commonwealth.

Distraught about the possibility of losing everything, Sebastian pulls the trigger, perhaps accidentally, but the bullet hits its mark, and Rick clutches the heavily bleeding wound and asks him, “What did you do?” This closes this issue.

In Issue 192, things pick right up where they left off, and Sebastian apologizes in a panic. He then shoots rick three more times, killing him, where he lays until morning. Carl would find his reanimated father has to be the one to put him down.

Fans of the series know a much different story to be told. Rick doesn’t die in the series. During season 9, he pulls a brave move by blowing up a bridge in the attempt to save his family and friends. They all witness the event and believe him to be dead. But, viewers see that he was blown to the river bank, where Jadis/Anne picked him up in Civic Republic Military (CRM) helicopter and took him there to be cared for. Fans were devastated that Rick would no longer be on the series.

At that time, actor Andrew Lincoln choose to leave the series to spend time with his family. Recent news has informed fans that he will be returning in a spinoff series and be paired up with Danai Gurira, who will reprise her role as Michonne.

This new series will be different from the flagship series as both characters have been significantly altered by what they have experienced since viewers last see them.
