Danai Gurira recently talked to The Hollywood Reporter on the red carpet for Black Panther: Wakanda Forever premiere and talked about what filming was like without Chadwick Boseman. She spoke of the day Boseman’s loss really hit her on set. She entered the Tribal Council room and saw the throne, which she hadn’t seen since his death. The filming for this movie had to be emotional for all.

She also mentions the Richonne limited spinoff series in the brief interview.

At the 2022 SDCC event, AMC announced that Gurira and Andrew Lincoln would reprise their roles as Michonne and Rick Grimes in a spinoff series. Fans went wild at the news as these characters are fan favorites, and there are still many stories to be told. Originally Rick’s story was going to be expanded into a trilogy of movies, but after AMC had some changes in executives, they scrapped that idea, and the spinoff was formed.

Gurira shared that they are in the pre-production phase of co-creating the limited, which she stressed, series with Lincoln and Scott M. Gimple. She says there are two of her favorite people on the planet, which makes it a joy to work with them again but creating a new series is a lot of work. Gurira and Lincoln are also serving as executive producers for the series.

In an interview with Self magazine, Gurira revealed she is co-writing the series with Gimple.

Danai Gurira – Michonne

Michonne departed the flagship series storyline in season 10 when she discovered that her husband, Rick, didn’t die during the bridge explosion. Viewers were privy to this information in Lincoln’s final episode in season 9. He was viewed as being whisked away in a CRM (Civic Republic Military) helicopter with Jadis (Pollyanna McIntosh). But the friends and family who witnessed the explosion thought Rick died.

The last we saw of Michonne, she was aiding Bailey (Andrew Bachelor), who was injured, and his companion Aiden (Breeda Wool). They were trying to reconnect with their group. Michonne sees a massive convoy in the valley below and remembers back to when Rick saw her at the prison fence and helped her, she then decided to assist them.

It has been quite some time since that episode, and it will be interesting to see where Michonne’s journey takes her next.
