The Walking Dead: Dead City first production teaser
By Renee Hansen
The Walking Dead series has three episodes remaining in its final run, which is truly hard to believe. As the fandom becomes emotional over the loss of the series that they have dedicated 12 years of their lives, there is much to look forward to. There are additional spinoff series in the works, with the first new one, The Walking Dead: Dead City, already wrapping production for the first season.
Dead City will be the first direct sequel of the flagship series featuring two fan-favorite characters. This series will pair Maggie (Lauren Cohan) and Negan (Jeffrey Dean Morgan) on a journey to Manhattan. The island had been cut off since the beginning of the outbreak and is now overrun by a horde of walkers one million strong.
This series is written by Eli Jorné, who also serves as showrunner and co-created the series with The Walking Dead Universe Chief Content Officer Scott M. Gimple. The original title Ilse of the Dead was changed to The Walking Dead: Dead City in August 2022.
So far, the reason Maggie and Negan head to Manhattan has been kept under wraps. There is also the question if any familiar faces will join them. Maggie has a son Hershel (Kien Michael Spiller), and Negan is newly married to Annie (Medina Senghore), who is expecting his child. Will something happen to require the pair to leave without their families?

UPDATE: 01/10/2023 AMC has announced Dead City will release in June 2023. Fear the Walking Dead will premiere its eighth and final season on May 14, 2023.
