It’s only a little over a week since The Walking Dead colluded its story, and fans are already feeling the void. Many took to social media, wondering how they would spend their Sunday evenings without TWD content. Luckily fans have several spinoffs to look forward to in 2023. In an interview with AMC.com chief content officer for TWD, Scott M. Gimple, he states that he hopes to see more spinoffs and limited series in the universe.

Fans are aware that in 2023 TWDU will see the return of Fear the Walking Dead’s eighth season, but there is much more to come. Maggie (Lauren Cohan) will team up with Negan (Jeffrey Dean Morgan) in The Walking Dead: Dead City, which will see a release in April 2023. Daryl (Norman Reedus) will head to France in The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon and Rick (Andrew Lincoln) and Michonne (Danai Guria) will be featured in a series of their own.

These characters are critical players in TWDU, and fans long to hear more of their stories. From early reports, each series will have its own tone and be quite different from the flagship series. Showrunners have even teased that this series could see some time jumps from the last episode of The Walking Dead.

The Walking Dead spinoffs

In the interview, Gimple, who also serves as executive producer for TWD, was asked how the characters featured in the spinoffs were chosen. He replied that these are the central characters in the story, but he truly hopes these are only the first of many stories to be told.

The original plan for Tales of the Walking Dead was to feature familiar characters from previous seasons. When asked about more Tales of TWD episodes or spinoffs, he replied he is open to more of all of them. He explained that the focus is on the announced series, but he has dreams of doing much more.

So rest easy, TWD Family, the flagship has sailed its last, but an armada will keep us afloat TWD content for years to come.
