The Walking Dead has seen many deaths during its 11 seasons, several of which the fans will never forgive the creators for. Glenn’s (Steven Yeun) and Abraham’s (Michael Cudlitz) brutal deaths at the hands of Negan (Jeffrey Dean Morgan), Beth’s (Emily Kinney) shocking death at Grady Memorial, and Sasha’s (Sonequa Martin-Green) heroic death are just a few that come to mind.

One character death that is always trending on Google is Carl Grimes. If you are a fan of the comic story, there is good news, not only does Carl live a long and happy life, readers get to see a glimpse into his life with a 20-year time jump. He is happily married to Sophia, who many are surprised to learn survives in the comic story, and they have a daughter named Andrea. It is a very interesting ending to his story, so if you haven’t, you really should read the comics to see many different versions of the characters’ stories.

The Walking Dead – Carl Grimes

Carl Grimes (Chandler Riggs) of the TV series didn’t have the same happy ending as his comic counterpart. In the season 8 episode “How It’s Gotta Be,” Carl reveals a walker bite on his abdomen to a shocked Rick (Andrew Lincoln) and Michonne (Danai Gurira) and a shocked fandom, for that matter.

During the season 8 midseason finale, “Honor,” we see Rick and Michonne tearfully dig a grave for their son. It is a gut-wrenching scene that continues later in the episode.

In a flashback, viewers see how Carl is bitten in the abdomen by a walker as he and Siddiq (Avi Nash) fight their way through the woods. Carl brought Saddiq to Alexandria because, as he would later tell Rick, “he needed us.”

This episode is a farewell to Carl as viewers watch him in flashbacks as he pens letters to several people, including Michonne, Rick, Enid (Katelyn Nacon), Negan, and more. He makes the handprints with Judith, plants vegetables at Alexandria, takes off his hat, and enjoys the sun.

In the present, he tells Judith goodbye, sharing their mother’s last words, and this is when he gives her the famous Grimes hat handed down to him by their father. He has conversations with Daryl (Norman Reedus), Siddiq, and Michonne.

Rick and Michonne carry him to the church, where he tells them he will be the one to shoot himself so he doesn’t reanimate. He tells them he loves them, and as they emotionally wait outside, they hear a single shot.

This is one death a majority of fans will never forgive the creators, as he was supposed to survive until the end and carry on the Grimes name. It’s sad to think he survived two gunshot wounds and, with all of his experience, gets taken down by a walker.

Fans of Riggs were happy to learn that he actually appeared in the series finale episode, “Rest in Peace,” which aired on November 20, 2022. He came to the set for the last day of filming, and the creators put him in the scene at Hilltop scene during the one-year time jump. He can be seen in the background farming.
