The Walking Dead series finale gave viewers some surprises. The first was a satisfactory ending, and the second was the inclusion of Rick (Andrew Lincoln) and Michonne (Danai Gurira) in the coda scene of the episode. That being said, there are still a multitude of loose ends that have and will never be wrapped up unless the creators can find ways to insert them into the upcoming spinoffs.

Including Rick and Michonne in the final scenes of the last episode answered some vital questions but also created new ones. Luckily fans will see the answer to those in the upcoming spinoff series The Walking Dead: Rick & Michonne, we aren’t sure that is the official title, but it works as a placeholder for now.

Many characters dropped out of the storyline and never heard from again. Virgil (Kevin Carroll), Eduardo (Peter Luis Zimmerman), Kal (James Chen), Georgie (Jayne Atkinson), and the twins, the community of Oceanside, save Luke (Dan Fogler) and Jules (Alex Sgambati), who were killed during the finale.  Will we ever see or hear of these characters and the others who never appeared again?

Questions unanswered in The Walking Dead finale

Another question left unanswered is the PPP card that Tara (Alanna Masterson) found after Heath (Corey Hawkins) disappeared. Showrunner Angela Kang confirmed that Heath was traded to the Civic Repulic Military by Jadis (Pollyanna McIntosh), as she did with Rick, but this card is never explained. It became even more interesting when the same card type appeared in season 1 of Tales of the Walking Dead. During the episode “Davon,” Jesse T. Usher, who portrays the titular character, has a card just like Tara’s in his possession.

The series creators only had a limited number of episodes to close this storyline, but a significant letdown was the fact that Annie (Medina Senghore), Negan’s (Jeffrey Dean Morgan) wife, just fell out of the story. She was last seen saying goodbye to Negan as he left Alexandria to head to the Commonwealth. The least that could have been done was a mention in the one-year time jump in the finale because, by that time, she would have given birth to their child.

Other questions include:

  • What will happen to the children when the parents go off onto their spinoff series?
  • How will Daryl get to France?
  • How is Pamela Milton fairing in jail?
  • Why the sudden appearance of the variant walkers?

With the conclusion of The Walking Dead series, many questions will remain unanswered. The spinoffs could answer some of these, but only time will tell.
