Award-winning actress and director Samantha Morton made her return to The Walking Dead universe in the spinoff series Tales of the Walking Dead. She was featured in an episode titled “Dee” that revealed more background on her character Alpha/Dee. Morton has been making headlines with new projects like The Serpent Queen, and She Said, based on an expose of movie producer Harvey Weinstein’s sexual misconduct. Directed by Darren Aronofsky, known for The Wrestler and Black Swan, The Whale is based on Samuel D. Hunter’s play. The story follows the 600-pound recluse Charlie, an English teacher, who tries to mend his relationship with his daughter and seek redemption.
Brendan Fraser portrays Charlie with Sadie Sink, of Stranger Things fame, as his daughter. Morton plays Charlie’s ex-wife Mary. The film also stars Hong Chau, Ty Simpkins, and Sathya Sridharan.
The film received a six-minute standing ovation at the 79th Venice International Film Festival in September 2022. On December 9, the movie debuted in theaters to polarizing reviews. Fraser and Chau have been praised for their performances, and Fraser was nominated for Best Actor at the Golden Globes and Critics Choice Awards.
