Robert Kirkman is the man behind the creation of The Walking Dead comic, which in turn became the series. Kirkman has always been involved with series and its spinoffs in different roles, including writer and executive producer. Now a new movie titled Renfield, based on an original pitch by Kirkman has a trailer and release date.

Renfield is the lackey to Count Dracula, who first appeared in Bram Stoker’s original Dracula novel from 1897. The new film, which sees Nicholas Hoult in the titular role, will be a modern telling of a classic monster tale with the Oscar-winning Nicolas Cage portraying Renfield’s boss and vampire, Dracula.

Set in New Orleans, Renfield is an action comedy horror, which sees the title character find a new lease on life when he falls for an aggressive traffic cop, Rebecca Quincy, portrayed by Awkwafina. He has endured centuries of doing Dracula’s bidding and feels he is ready to deal with his codependency on his boss and take charge of his life.

The film will release in theaters on April 14, 2023; you can view the trailer below.
