Deadline reports that actor and podcast personality Jon Bernthal has been cast in Ana DuVernay’s Caste film. Bernthal is well known for some great roles throughout his career. Walking Dead fans know him as Shane Walsh, while MCU fans remember him as The Punisher.
Caste is a film adaptation of the Pulitzer Prize Winning Caste: The Origins of Our Discontents by Isabel Wilkerson. The film is written, directed, and produced by DuVernay with Paul Garnes; the pair often collaborate on projects, including Selma and Middle of Nowhere. The movie has begun filming in Savannah, Georgia.
Bernthal’s casting was announced with Niecy Nash-Betts, Vera Farmiga, Nick Offerman, Jasmine Cephas Jones, and Connie Nielsen. This group joins previously announced Aunjanue Ellis, who stars in the lead role.
The movie utilizes social, economic, and cultural delineation and “pillars” of exclusion to analyze racism in America.
What else does Jon Bernthal star in?
Recently, Bernthal starred as Julian Kaye in the Showtime original American Gigolo. This series was a continuation of the same-titled movie from 1980 that saw Richard Gere as Kaye.
Bernthal’s recent roles included The Bear, We Own This City, Sharp Stick, The Unforgivable, and The Many Saints of Newark. Another new project is an action comedy, Snow Ponies, which stars Evan Peters, Josh Gad, and Charlie Plummer.
