Fear the Walking Dead actor Rubén Blades wins eleventh Grammy Award
By Renee Hansen
Congrats to Fear the Walking Dead actor Rubén Blades who won his eleventh Grammy Award at the 65th edition of the awards in Los Angeles on Feb. 5, 2023. Blades is well known within the Fear the Walking Dead fandom for his portrayal of Daniel since the series’ first season. Blades is also a fabulous musician in the salsa and Latin jazz genres.
At this year’s Grammy Awards, Blades with Boca Livre, a Brazilian MPB musical group, won Best Latin Pop Album for “Pasieros.” This album was recorded in 2011 but only released in 2022. This is the second collaboration between Blades and Boca Livre. In 2016 Blades would back their recording of an album of his songs.
Blades shared the news of the win on Instagram, recognizing the talent of Boca Livre and expressing his congratulations to them.
"What sells the most is not necessarily what represents the best quality. That’s what the result proves that we are grateful for today. Thanks to the Academy voters for giving us your support and thanks to all of you for always being “in Ruben’s corner”."
What else does Rubén Blades star in?
In addition to being a musician and actor, Blades is also a singer, composer, activist, and politician.
Blades’ role as Daniel on Fear the Walking Dead will soon come to an end. AMC announced that season 8, which premieres part one on May 14, 2023, will be the series’ final season. Only time will tell if Daniel, who has experienced health issues, will survive. Part 2 of the last season will experience a seven-year time jump. Let’s hope Daniel survives.
Other roles Blades is known for include Once Upon a Time in Mexico, Safe House, Color of Night, Predator 2, and The Counselor. Next, he will star in a sci-fi series, Infiltracion.
