With so many spinoffs being developed within The Walking Dead universe, it is challenging to keep them straight. That, compounded with working titles and title changes, makes it even more difficult to keep them all straight. What is The Walking Dead: The Ones Who Live?

Summit was the placeholder title given to The Walking Dead spinoff series focusing on Rick (Andrew Lincoln) and Michonne (Danai Gurira). Although fans aren’t exactly what to expect from this series, it will see a reunion between the apocalyptic power couple.

The official title, The Walking Dead: The Ones Who Live was announced at SDCC 2023.

Showrunner Scott M. Gimple has described it as an epic love story and explains that Rick and Michonne have experienced a lot during their time apart.

The official logline of the series reads:

"Kept apart by distance. By an unstoppable power. By the ghosts of who they were. Rick and Michonne are thrown into another world, built on a war against the dead… And ultimately, a war against the living. Can they find each other and who they were in a place and situation unlike any they’ve ever known before? Are they enemies? Lovers? Victims? Victors? Without each other, are they even alive – or will they find that they, too, are the Walking Dead?"

Rick departed the series during season 9 when it was assumed he died. Actor Andrew Lincoln decided to leave the series to spend time with his family. In season 10, Michonne discovers Rick didn’t die and sets out searching for him. This was to account for Danai Gurira’s desire to leave the series and pursue other projects.

Now Rick and Michonne have returned as filming for the series has begun in New Jersey. Gimple has also stated that the Rick and Michonne fans will see in the new series harken back to the Red Machete Rick and Michonne fighting the governor days. That is fantastic news, as it means this storyline will be an exciting one.

Hopefully, there is more backstory to what the characters endured while they were apart. Another big question viewers have…will they ever be reunited with their children, Judith and RJ?
